CIGNA has issued an updated PT/OT coverage policy which can be found at:
This policy provides that CIGNA will not pay for:
- Infrared
- Vaso
- Work hardening
- H-Wave
- Dry needling
- Taping
- Laser
This policy also includes CIGNA’s PT/OT documentation requirements. Among other general requirements, these documentation requirements provide:
- The eval/POC must include long and short-term goals
- Treatment notes must include total treatment time (in minutes)
- “Intermittent” progress reports are required. CIGNA does not specify when PRs are required but using Medicare’s rule requiring a progress report every 10 visits should suffice
- Discharge reports are required
